Information on Tiny Yorkies or

so called "Teacup Yorkies"

If you are thinking about getting a Tiny yorkie for a pet, there are several things you might like to know about them. They have the same traits as your standard ,they are loyal, gentle, intelligent, elegant, non-shedding, very tiny and fragile. A tiny yorkie ranges from 2lbs to 5 lbs. in weight.

The yorkie breed make a great family pet, because it loves companionship and does not like to be alone. If your household is gone for the majority of each day, your "teacup" yorkie may not be the happiest of pets and might benefit from a second teacup playmate! If you are gone for much of the day, plan on exercising your puppy/dog well when you get home. Teacup yorkies require the least exercise of all the toy breeds, especially when young, but they still require a good romp in the yard once they reach maturity.

There are some words of caution that need to be mentioned about the tiny yorkie as a pup, and even sometimes an adult. Their small size means that they can run out of energy quickly. This requires vigilance for the first 6 to 9 months of their lives, as low blood sugar (hypoglycemia) can occur instantly and could be fatal. I recommend keeping your puppy in a child's playpen to avoid overexertion. Then take them out for small amounts of playtime and then just like a new born need rest, so due these teacup puppies. It is very important to always have karo syrup on hand at all times with a tiny puppy, this will counteract the occasional low blood sugar incidents. Karo syrup can be put directly into the puppies mouth or can be put into there water they drink will give them a balanced sugar level. Another suggests giving them some high-energy liquid food at night to carry them safely through to morning like (Nutra-cal). Check with your trusted vet for good advice. Giving them a teaspoon of "Puppy Cesar" on the dry food before going to bed and again in the morning helps the sugar low too!

If you have children, you might wish to choose a standard size yorkie, rather than a Tiny one. The tiny puppies are fragile and a toy size might make a better choice. You just need to remember how small a 2 - 4 pound puppy really is... They are unable to jump off a couch or chair because it will fracture or brake the bones in the legs. I'm not trying to scare you away from these adorable babies but just to give you more information. This way you can choose what size will fit in with you and your family.
